It’s Time to Celebrate National “Dab Day”
Everyone’s favorite Dab Day is upon us . . . that sticky icky . . . oooo so good golden yumminess. I suggest you gather up your concentrates and fire up your torches, because it's time to get “LIT”! 710 is right around the corner. . .
Most people recognize 4/20 (April 20th) as a cannabis holiday celebrated around the world. 420 has become the global holiday for smoking, eating, and using cannabis in all its forms. This special number “420” has been around for more than 30 years.
But, more recently a new cannabis holiday has emerged. . 7/10, also known as Oil Day or, Dab Day. 710 celebrations were first noted around 2012 (but may have even occurred earlier than that). Just like “420” is a term to celebrate cannabis - that almighty flower - “710” is a term used to celebrate dabs and cannabis concentrates. We do this on the 10th of July or 7/10.
710” is the number associated with cannabis oils and extracts for the simple reason that if you turn the number upside down, it looks like the word “OIL.”
Dabbing Potency
Dabbing is fairly new, but its popularity suggests that the practice is not going anywhere anytime soon. Using a tiny dollop of cannabis extract aka wax, shatter, crumble, etc. vaporized on a ultra-hot surface maximizes the amount of cannabis used and provides a much stronger and quicker high. This can be beneficial to medical marijuana patients who need relief fast
Marijuana Concentrates
Concentrates contain extraordinarily high THC levels ranging from 40 to 80 percent. Concentrate form can be up to four times stronger in THC content than high grade marijuana, which normally measures around 20 percent THC levels.
Let’s take a look at how dabs compare to flower regarding strength, health risks, and a couple of other things.
You can call a concentrate ‘pot on steroids,’ and according to marijuana advocate Dr. Dustin Sulak, a single inhalation of a dab offers up to 10 times the THC (and other cannabinoid content) as herbal weed. Please make sure you either dab at home or with a friend, just in case the high becomes too extreme.
Dabs vs Flower: Things to Consider
The biggest health risks associated with marijuana arise when you smoke a joint, as combustion can reach approximately 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The plant begins to combust at around 392 degrees, and as combustion causes smoke, there are similar risks to smoking tobacco, albeit without the enormous number of carcinogens.
Which has the Better Flavor, Dabs or Flower?
One of my favorite things about concentrates is the burst of delicious flavor you enjoy especially if it’s a high-quality product - like my favorites, bootlegger710, Whitemoose and the on the top of my list are the 2019 High Times Award Winners - Craft Cannabis Company. Dabbing potentially has a greater level of terpenoids* This is crucial because the marijuana plant’s terpenes are the reason for the delightful aroma and flavor you enjoy when you consume weed.
Chemicals & Carcinogens
When you vaporize your dabs, around 95% of the gases contain cannabinoids, and combusted smoke gases consist of just 12% cannabinoids. Something to also think about is, combustion of marijuana produces a few known carcinogens and tar, which could lead to chronic bronchitis as they irritate your lungs.
If you have ever dabbed, you will notice that the glass and water remain cleaner for longer.
When you smoke flower via a water pipe or bong, it amazing how fast the glass and water become dirty.
In fact, the glass is black with tar and other less than healthy substances which can take a toll on your lungs.
Research into how dabs affect your lungs is still ongoing, but users routinely report cleaner hits with less lung irritation when dabbing.
It is also a fact that combustion destroys an enormous number of terpenes because it exposes the flower to extreme heat. Some important terpenoids such as Beta-Caryophyllene, Alpha-Pinene, and linalool have boiling points between 242 and 388 degrees Fahrenheit. CBD has a boiling point of between 320 and 356 degrees.
So, people who use vaporizers/dab rigs that heat concentrates to temperatures in the low 300-degree range (you can either wait a minute after heating your rig, or what I do is use a heat gun) should theoretically get greater flavor and more medicinal benefits than those who smoke flower.

This was the day of days! I got lots of sweet deals on some amazing product. I was very pleased with the nice selection the dispensaries had on concentrates. I especially liked that everyone was in a super good & chill mood. I went to several dispensaries to check out the deals and the entertainment, (Craft Cannabis Company, Fireleaf, Caliroots, BCC, and The Green Room) unfortunately on the entertainment end I was too early as most activities began in the afternoon. I wanted to get an early start so I was at the door when they opened - or very soon after!
I stopped into BCC as I know they always have great concentrates, but to my surprise, no deals to be had. But I picked up some Lemon Tree Shatter anyway to check it out. The do-si-do was off the chain that I picked up last week . . . very sweet and smooth, not to mention the effects lasted a very long time. So, since I was on site, I figured why not. I just wish they participated in the 710 event like so many other dispensaries were, but hey, maybe next year.
FireLeaf was next on the list. Not many people at the Village location, but again I started early. . .They had good deals on carts and 710 bootlegger along with several other concentrates. I opted for the carts and a bit of flower. In the corner of the dispensary were two beautiful Moon Mix Representatives to celebrate with us, as part of this promotion! If you had any questions they were there to answer them, not to mention they had FREE stickers and shirts to pass out, and who doesn't love free?! I feel carts are always great to have on hand and very convenient when your on the go.
Next stop was Craft Cannabis Company in Edmond. They had a steady flow of customers and many patients waiting to get in. I picked up some Live Resin (a favorite in my house) and some Country Hash along with some "House" shatter. I have never been disappointed with any of the products thus far. The concentrates (shatter/wax/sugar etc.) have always hit the mark. I can remember the last house blend I purchased sent me into a "Rick & Morty" state . . . can you say wubba lubb dub dub?! I am hoping this house blend is not quite as strong - lol! The country hash looks amazing, and smells even better, I can't wait to try this one.
After munching on some delicious BBQ wings from "Flavor Wings & Fries" , decided to head over to see what was happening at The Green Room Cannabis Company, on May Avenue. I am aware they are a new dispensary, so I wasn't sure if they would be doing anything special for 710. But I love these guys so much, it would be worth the trip just to say hello. Upon arrival and being greeted by the lovely pups, you'll never guess what I saw in the case . . .they had lots of 710 Bootlegger along with a few other delectable looking concentrates available. Since I am a big dessert girl, I couldn't resist the Live Resin Banana Kush. It just sounded amazing, and much to my surprise, he was doing deals on concentrates. I certainly made a good choice - because man was this nice!
I ended the evening with a BANG! at Cali Roots on 23rd street. The lovely Deven hit me up on a chat and asked where to get the best deal. I suggested Craft in Edmond (because the deals were great, BOGO, but most importantly, I know everything they have is fire). Deven quickly corrected me, and said they got 3-grams for $50 at Cali Roots. When I checked on the prices I was a bit confused at first, but after a few more conversations and some creativity on there part, I understood -- they purchased the $15 .5 grams (6 of them) and the deal was take $40 off of three grams. . .so lets do the math, 6 half grams @$15 each equals 3-grams total for $90, then the fabulous Cali Roots "Oil Celebration Discount" of $40 off of 3-grams, gives us a total of 3 grams for $50!! So of course I had just enough time to drive on down to 23rd street (love that they are open til 10:00 PM) and end the day with a BANG(er)! lol
This year's deals were great! I can't imagine what it will be like next year, so many more grows will be up and operating, so the chances of bigger, and dare I say it, better deals will be happening! Fingers crossed! Hope you had a happy & safe "Dab Day".
