Weed and Wine Pairings

Sativa Strains & White Wines | Weed & Wine Pairings

GOOD WEED & WINE IS MEANT TO BE SHARED

Dry, Sweet, Fruity or Crisp

White wines like Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc will sometimes have either dry or sweet characteristics and a fruity crispness that comes from citrus fruits or tropical fruits. These wines pair best with lighter citrusy sativas and hybrid dominant strains like Jack Herer, Maui Waui, Super Silver Haze, Pineapple Express, Mango Kush, and Lemon Kush, because all carry the same limonene terpenes (natural lemon scent).”

Bold red wines with indica-dominant strains

If you’re more in the mood for a mellow indica strain, bold reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petite Sirah, [which] are all full-bodied wines that have a variety of dark fruit flavors (blackberry, black currant, plum) and sometimes pepper, cloves, or cinnamon. These wines pair best with bold, heavier indica-dominant strains like Skywalker OG, Blackberry Kush, Grand Daddy Purp (one of my faves), and Northern lights, [which] carry the same dark fruit and earthy aromas.

Rosés are very flexible

Rosé manages to function as a jack-of-all-trades wine, at least where marijuana pairings are concerned. A rosé is one of the most versatile wines [for pairings]. Rosé wines typically have higher acidity and more neutral flavors, they pair exceptionally well with a wide selection of cannabis strains, particularly those that have pronounced limonene (citrus) or linalool (floral) terpene profiles.”

Grand Daddy Purp and Cabernet Sauvignon

When it comes to a rich, indica-heavy strain like Grand Daddy Purp (again, one of my faves), match it with a robust California Cabernet Sauvignon. "This could be my most favorite Weed & Wine pairing". Cabernet Sauvignon and Grand Daddy Purp, or any other heavy fruity indica strain. Cabernet Sauvignon grown in California tends to be pretty fruit-forward, but mellow at the same time, with rich dark fruit notes of blackberry or blueberry and some earthy notes, like cedar and mocha. This wine pairs best with heavier indica strains Grand Daddy Purp.

Being here in Oklahoma we are truly spoiled and blessed. A new study says Oklahoma ranks second per capita in the entire country, for the number of marijuana dispensaries, even beating out states like Colorado and California. We also have some of the best cannabis. Not to mention we have over 600 liquor stores (that number does not include the grocery or convenience stores) to choose from. Make sure you support local.

Crème Brûlée and Riesling

Creme Brûlée is a sometimes tough-to-locate indica strain, You can appreciates the way that it pairs with the German white wine varietal Riesling. An absolute favorite dessert pairing is Crème Brûlée — [the] Indica cultivar, not the custard — with a Napa Riesling and warm peach cobbler.

Frizzantes and skin-contact whites taste especially refreshing alongside cannabis

When in doubt about a wine-weed pairing, go for a slightly-sparkling wine or a white wine. Something refreshing that goes down easily to help with the dreaded cottonmouth!

Sour Tangie and Chardonnay

Sour Tangie brings together the classic Sour Diesel aroma with Tangie’s creative, elevating buzz and strong citrus overtones. This sativa-dominant hybrid strain, Sour Tangie pairs well alongside a Chardonnay.

Did you know?

Most wine names tie to the region where they are crafted or the grapes used during their production.

WHAT'S IN A NAME

Riesling

is a white grape variety which originated in the Rhine region. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. It is used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and sparkling white wines. Riesling wines are usually varietally pure and are seldom oaked.

Chardonnay

is a green-skinned grape variety used in the production of white wine. The variety originated in the Burgundy wine region of eastern France, but is now grown wherever wine is produced, from England to New Zealand.

Sauvignon Blanc

is a green-skinned grape variety that originates from the Bordeaux region of France. The grape most likely gets its name from the French words sauvage and blanc due to its early origins as an indigenous grape in South West France. It is possibly a descendant of Savagnin.

Pinot Noir

is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines created predominantly from Pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the French words for pine and black. The word pine alludes to the grape variety having tightly clustered, pine cone-shaped bunches of fruit

Cabernet Sauvignon

is one of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates from Canada's Okanagan Valley to Lebanon's Beqaa Valley.

Pinot gris, pinot grigio or Grauburgunder

is a white wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. Thought to be a mutant clone of the pinot noir variety, it normally has a grayish-blue fruit, accounting for its name but the grapes can have a brownish pink to black and even white appearance.

Moscato

(pronounced mo-ska-toh) is a sweet Italian wine known for its fruity notes. Made from the Muscat grape, this white wine is typically thought of as a dessert wine with a hint of fizz. The Muscat family of grapes includes over 200 grape varieties belonging to the Vitis vinifera species that have been used in wine production and as raisin and table grapes around the globe for many centuries. Their colors range from white, to yellow, to pink to near black.

Zinfandel

is a variety of black-skinned wine grape. The variety is grown in over 10 percent of California vineyards. Best trick when buying Zinfandel is to check the Alcohol by Volume (ABV). A lighter Zinfandel will have about 13.5% ABV whereas a bold and spicy Zinfandel will have around 16% ABV.

Merlot

is a dark blue-colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape.

Because Merlot wine is so sensitive to light, Merlot based wines tinge orange on the rim. The orange rim is the telltale sign of Merlot vs. Cabernet Sauvignon.

White Zinfandel

it tends to have citrusy and light flavors - orange, vanilla, strawberry, raspberry, cherry. In addition, new white zinfandels have fruit juices added to them right before bottling to create new flavored versions.

THE SECRET TRICK TO CHILLING WINE INSTANTLY

You want it now. Not in the 2-3 hours it can take for it to cool in the fridge, an hour in the freezer, or even the 20 minutes it can take to soak a paper towel, wrap it around the bottle and put it in the freezer. hmmm, who hasn't done this.

We're an instant-gratification society, after all—especially when it comes to poppin' bottles.

Now there is a simple solution: Look at what we found!

  • Use frozen fruit. Many people already keep some in the freezer for smoothies, smoothie bowls, and pies anyway.

  • A few pieces of frozen fruit keeps your drink cool—perfect for slow sippers, who can nurse a drink over a few hours—without diluting it, like you would with ice cubes.

  • Plus, you get a booze-infused snack when your glass is empty. Win!

Check out the pairings to the left and leave a comment and let me know which one you tried.

Final Thoughts:

We all know that smoking weed on a regular basis helps lower stress levels.

But did you know that Red Wine is higher in antioxidants? And it also helps with lowering bad cholesterol.

Not only does it regulate the cholesterol levels, but also keeps the heart healthy.

Polyphenols, a certain type of antioxidants present in red wines prevent unwanted clotting by keeping the blood vessels flexible. However, it should be remembered that heavy drinking damages the heart.

So don't get it twisted! Smoke & Drink Responsibly!

Thanks for keeping me company and letting me have a space to share this journey. I’ll be back again soon with another post/video, until then please remember to be safe and responsible with your cannabis use, puff puff pass the love, and smoke weed daily,
